Allen R. Phillips renovates some of New York City’s most unique housing stock in its most charming neighborhoods to repurpose historic layouts into dynamic floor plans. Through architectural intervention, we unlock the spatial and aesthetic potential of each property – maintaining the historic architecture while creating smart, comfortable, and eco-friendly living spaces. We specialize in urban markets with properties that have underutilized floor-to-area ratio (FAR) and creatively optimize square footage to improve habitation for residents while maximizing returns on investment (ROI) for owners and investors.

Recipient of the John L. Tishman Scholarship for Sustainable Development, Design, and Construction from the Parsons New School of Design in New York City, Allen R. Phillips considers the innovative use and reuse of materials a hallmark of his work. Honoring a building’s architecture, we update the functionally obsolete — inserting energy efficient kitchens and baths juxtaposed against the patina of a home that has lived several lives. We upgrade mechanical systems and introduce modern HVAC to improve indoor air quality – one of the tenets of green building. We believe that extending a home’s life is the truest form of sustainable design.
Throughout his career Allen has practiced SixSigma, Total Quality Management (TQM) and Continuous Improvement Process (CIP). These tools assured successful delivery of product to his advertising clients and now allow him to do the same for architecture and development clients. Allen believes that in design, as in marketing, one must find innovative solutions that are practical and magical at the same time.
